Much has been made about the significance of the eventual Greek victory. It has been hypothesized that, had Greece fallen to the Persian Empire, the cultivation of classical society would have been severely stunned. As a result, Western civilization might not have benefited from the philosophy, tragedy, and literature that followed the Greco-Persian wars.

Do we find this plausible? Would our modern society have been greatly impacted if the Greeks had submitted to Persian rule?
