If you are considering a nursing home in Dublin, there are some important things to know. In general, Ireland has a high rate of institutionalization, which is partly because the country has such a high population density. There are about 110 nursing homes in the country. The average length of stay is about three months. The government pays for about 75% of the cost of care. About half of all nursing home residents are over 85 years old, and about one-third are over 90 years old. Half of all nursing home residents have dementia or some form of cognitive impairment. About two-thirds of all nursing home residents receive some form of regular medication.
